• Preshrink all materials appropriately for the fiber content. Soak hair canvas in cold water, then press with a steam iron. Steam press wigan.

• Read all directions before cutting. Some of my methods are quite different from traditional home sewing techniques.

• Make a sample muslin to fine tune the fit before cutting the fashion fabric; it reduces the temptation to try on the jacket frequently during construction, preserving the pristine quality of the fabric and design.

• Make or purchase shoulder pads at the outset, and insert them for every fitting.

• Don't skimp on basting. It actually saves time—basting is much easier than ripping.

• Press, press, press. When tailoring, it is not uncommon to spend much more time pressing than stitching.

• Follow the example of musicians and athletes and "warm up" before you begin. Perfect your skills for individual elements before applying them to the garment itself.
